Being a parent is simultaneously the hardest, most time-consuming and thankless job you may ever have - and usually the most rewarding. There are scores of parenting books out there, tons of research and strategies and approaches, but figuring out what is right for you and what works for your family can be overwhelming. Not only will different strategies work differently in each family, but they might work differently with each child in the same family.
When working with parents, I focus on a few guiding principles. The first is that there is great benefit in being a "good-enough" parent. What that will mean to each of you may vary, but letting go of the myth of the perfect parent is the first step in finding more balance and joy. Next, it is important to recognize the various roles you may have - be it person, parent, partner, or professional. Managing these roles can get overwhelming - often you can feel as if none of them are getting the attention they deserve. Instead of trying to juggle these roles, we will look at how you can effectively flow in and out of them - finding your own rhythm with grace and balance.
If you have specific parenting concerns, I can share with you a perspective based on nearly 20 years of working with children and families as well as my own parenting experiences. We will sift through stories and information to find strategies that will work for you.
